New herp
I think Im ready to begin My herp keeping. So First steps, taking them now. probally wont be getting my herp till june. So I need some help deciding! (after I get 1 or 2 little guys my parents will be very open to getting more just how they are).
1. Cant have snakes my mom and sister will not have it even though I love the little guys. 2. Has to be small nothing more then a 20-30 gallon or a (cant think of the name of these cages but they are black and have like a netting)2'W 31/2'H 3'L 3. I LOVE GECKOS, beared dragons, lizards anything you can really have on your sholder and it will be cool. Even golden geckos(i know they are jumpers) I wouldnt mind that. 4. kind of want more then 1 maybe 2 but if I can get 1 of something into those size tanks. 5. I herd chameleons are hard to keep even the small species? 6. Your suggestions!!! |

It's really up to you on what you want to get, but I'd say a leopard gecko or crested gecko are great beginner pets. They are really easy to keep and fairly tame.

I'm with Beth,,,Leopard geckos stay small enough for a 20 gl tank and are great beginner lizards...I would definitely start with that.

With your specifications I too would suggest a leopard gecko. They are small, easily fed, and do not require expensive lighting.
If you want a "shoulder pet" you are going to need to stay away from arboreal animals. They are built for jumping and will be hard to control. Chameleons are not a beginner's animal.

You can keep 2 Leopard Geckos in a 20 gal, but I would make sure they are male and female. You can breed them but I would suggest getting 2 babies and seeing how that turns out.For additional info on Leopard Geckos check our articles section for caresheets
