Should Day-light Savings Apply to Reptiles?
Hi,
I was just wondering if I should turn the dial on my timer foward an hour. My lizards are accustomed to the lights turning on at 9 and turning off at 9. Today they turned on at 10 and turned off at 10. Should I make it so they continue to turn on and off at 9? That is, should my lizards also lose an hour?
Thanks!

Don't you have different photo periods for summer and winter?
Mine were also on 12/12 but now I've given them an extra hour of day and within a couple of months I will add another day hour for summer's 14/10 photoperiod.

Hello,
I changed my timers. lol I did it for selfish reasons though. My herps get up when I get up and each are set for 7am.

Yes I am with Rich. I adjust the timer for selfish reasons. When I get up,...so do they. And I run a basic 14 on and 10 off schedule all year long.
But I am not trying to breed them.

I've only had my herps for a few months, so I don't have any experience with photo periods or such. Is that important only if I'm breeding? My herps are captive bred, so they aren't accustomed to photoperiods.

Mine are turned on when I get up and turned off before bed time. Sean's are on a different schedule, he turns his on when he gets up and off when he goes to bed (about an hour difference).

Every living animal is accustomed to photo periods. The sun rises, it's day. The sun sets, it's night. Both have a certain amount of time that is the same every cycle, I mean, everyday the day time is 12h long and doesn't vary.
You should set a photo period for your animals instead of letting them rely on your schedules.

I just put the timers in the tanks to let each herp decide,,,,funny....none of em touched it, I guess daylight savings applies to just us humans. Seriously though,,,we base our timers on our schedule, so we did change them.
