Red night lights?
Anyone had much experience with the red night lights available at some reptile stores?
Just wondered what your experience of them was... good, bad or indifferent?
Thanks

I dont know about night lights but my store sells red, green, blue. white, and one more color cant remember might be a darkblue or a purple. But we use them for the different effects or if your white light is too hot we suggest changing to a blue light which is 5-7degrees cooler.

I've used both Red and Dark blue night lights for my herps. Red night lights I've see red night lights as bulbs and basking spots, Red lights put out a great deal of light and my Leopard Geckos didn't seen to care for it much. The Dark blue lights put out very little heat and just the right amount of light, I find these the best watching night active animals that need a temp drop at night. You can get Blue night lights from 15W to 75w.

I believe there are a few threads about this. Search the forum.
I haven't tried the reds, only the blues, more precisely the exo-terra one. As far as I can tell, business goes as usual in my gecko enclosures when the light is on so I think it doesn't disturb them.

I'm with Savannah, I prefer the dark blue lights, but my main reasoning s that I can't sleep with the red lights on so my herps probably dont enjoy them either!

Especially with the nocternal herps, you know they dont want a red light shining in their eyes while they are "exploring the enclosure"

Personally I don't care for any lamps that put out light for night time heating.

I have just started using red lights in my snake room. I use 2 bulbs in a light stand for illumination between dusk and the time we go to bed and in the morning before I go to work. I've noticed that normal night activity for our emeralds is not effected and I like it much better than turning on the normal room lights.

If you have lizard such reptiles or geckos it is suggested to use blue over red(or the dark blue/purple).
