becoming a herp/reptile expert
Hello all brand new just joined a few minutes ago. Quick backround I have been working with fish ever since I could walk and now employed at the LPS. I was recently introduced to reptiles being most interested in snakes and lizards. I was wondering how to begin learning about each creature, origin etc... Ive been searching on google for awhile and cant find a great page. If you guys could help me get started learning about these guys that would be awesome!!

There is a great set of books out there called "The biology, husbandry and health care of reptiles" and you can find it for sale at amazon.com or try this link.

Our care sheets are a good place to start. Also read every book you can find but be sure and check the publishing date. Knowledge of keeping reptiles has advanced a lot in the last few years, THANKFULLY! Books older than 10 years are pretty much worthless. Also be careful about the pages you find on the internet. There is a lot of very useful information available, unfortunately there is also a lot of total drivel!

Yes, it's better to cross check everything. If 3 reliable sources say the same thing, then it's probably true =)
In time you'll know a bit better which are the most reliable sources.
