heat tape?
Has anyone ever used it...if so does it keep the tank heated as much as an Under Tank Heater, or better? It will be used in reptiles cages that wont get higher then 80 deg...will this push the temps up to about 88? I have no room for outlets or more lights...

I can't help you on this one...I know my friend uses it on her incubator and has it set on a thermostat....so thats probably another piece of equipment that you'll need to factor in to buy.

Hello,
Heat Tape and Under Tank Heater's operate pretty much the same way but are designed differently.
Heat tape comes in different widths. I use 2 inch heat tape on my rack. I have two runs going. One of the runs cover the first 2 shelfs and the second run covers the other 2 shelves. Both are wired to dimmer switches. (The kind for lights.)
I have the tape fixed to the shelves with aluminum tape. The sterilites that go on the shelves rest 1/16th above the heat tape. (Avoids friction between the tape and container. This helps prevent the tape from getting worn.)
Their sterilites have one end heated and the other unheated.
The dimmers act like a normal rheostat. I can turn the dimming up or down and that depicts how much current is sent to the tape and how warm it gets. My thermostats were initially used to help me set them. Once they were set where I wanted them, I made marks on the knobs and the unit to let me know where my base temp is coming from.
I have been using this rack for a couple of years now and it works very well with maintaining adequate temps.

woukd you suggest getting a rack for my corns? they are both about 12 inches rite now...i would rather use sterilites which I think I am going to....now do you have lights for the sterilites?? If so how do you have them set up..im assuming that I wont need lights since ill have the heat tape, but since they need a photoperiod how would I stimulate that?

Corns don't need any special lighting. As long as the room they are in has a daylight dark cycle such as would come from having a window in the room they will do fine.

I have two of my snakes in sterilites for now, one of them will move to my 40g as soon as I can get him in there but the other one will probably stay in the sterilite. Oh, and I use human heating pads right now.
