You can't know that for sure. So don't beat yourself up over it.
You said it was already in trouble.
Even the most skilled rehabbers lose animals from time to time.

Merlins right, you can't beat yourself up over it. I know you are awesome with reptiles and make for a great rehabilitator. This was not your fault and you shouldn't blame yourself for it. And about getting a water monitor, I'm sure you know this...but they get really big.

 i love the big fat ones! man can they eat...but im planning on getting more snakes so ill have to wait a year or so cuz I want to start a group of em...so im gonna start an enclosure this summer and I know a monitor breeder so ill be getting maybe 3-5 hatchlings from him

I'm sorry you didnt get a chance with the little guy. But you have to remember, reptiles are masters at hiding their illnesses by design. So by the time you start seeing symptoms...they are really much sicker then they are letting on.
Keep trying where you can and don't get discouraged....the world needs more caring people like yourself

I know its alot, lol..but they are happier in groups..and Im happier when they are happier...the saddest part is I thougt he would make it...after I got in I soadked him for about 5 mins and it seemed to wake him up a little bit, but he was doing a weird thing with his neck  *sighs* but yeah..restin in peace little monitor!
