Hello,

The good news is that the Employee didn't try to sell you anything you didn't need! The bad news is, he gave you incorrect info and lost a sale because of it.

Personally, I think there is some good that could come out of this. I would suggest that you return to that petstore. Give the owner a link to HC and ask him to join the site and read the article section on Green Iguanas.

The fact that he lost a sale by stating Iguanas prefer it dry displays that he is just ignorant on their care. It also shows that he does have a level of honesty. (He believes they like it dry but could have tried to sell it anyways for the profit.)

He may be more apt to "learn" if he is sincere in caring for his animals.

If you already haven't, go back there and buy that mister and inform him as to why.

(Unless he is actually selling Chuckwallas or Desert Iguanas. lol)

As Rich said, this guy had a level of honesty, and because of that a softly-softly approach may win him over and he may be very keen to learn.

While I do get angry that people with the incorrect knowledge sell these reptiles, the one thing we can do is put them straight so that they have the facts to work with these animals.

Green igs do need humidity - politely explain the difference between the species of iguana and advise him that incorrect care can result in an unhealthy animal.

I'm also personally opposed to the breeding and selling of baby igs, since they are often sold without the correct info and are abandoned when they reach their giant adult size. In my eyes, it's a bit like breeding cats and dogs .. there are so many out there in shelters that need rehoming that it seems cruel to these abandoned creatures to breed more of their species.
