Ig Taming

Help!! My baby ig is fine once you get him/her out but trying to get it out its viv is a nightmare any advice on how to get him to stop stressing and running off when I am getting him out?? Once he is out he'll happily sit on my shoulder or go to sleep in my jumper.

I read if you give him a treat when you want him out he will calm down and expect a treat to come out. Get pics.

Hello,

To prevent the iguana from running every time you reach in for him you need to build trust. From the iguanas perspective, you are a predator. Your hand is reaching in and coming at him. Seeing as you are so much larger than him, it appears that you may be wishing to cause him harm.

You can hand feed special treats to help build the trust and you can also just stand their with your hand in the enclosure and wait for him to come to you. That will require a great deal of patience.

I totally agree with Rich on this. Iguana taming takes lots of time, patience and understanding. Take it slowly, no quick movements, never try to approach your ig from above - this is how they are attacked in their natural habitat and can be very threatening to them, don't always offer food as a way to get your ig's attention, he/she may come to learn that your hand=feeding time and could one day mistake your wiggling finger for a piece of lettuce!! Your ig should get used to you in time - don't get me wrong, some ig's never become fully sociable and don't tolerate handling too well (Godz is living proof of that). Good luck with it and keep us posted on your progress
