Problem With Aquarium Glass

This is actually a stupid problem but it has me ready to get out a hammer. Right now I have 4 baby iggys in a 55 gal aquarium till my butt gets in gear and I finish their enclosure. The problem is with the aquarium glass. This tank originally had salt water in it. Now when it is dry it looks like there was soapy water in it that evaporated and left a deposit on the glass. Now, if you fill it with water the residue or whatever it is dissapears and it's crystal clear. I'm hoping that someone knows something that will take away this residue.

I'm just hoping that someone else ran into the problrm and has a sure fire answer before I relocate the iggys and take all the sand and bric-a-brac out and get that heavy booger outside. It just disgusts me when it looks like I don't keep my habitats clean. It's sitting right next to the computer and I have to look at it. All the other 55s have snakes in them. If I relocate them into one of the empty 50s there won't be quite enough room below for the Bearded Dragons 20 gal.

There shouldn't be sand in an ig enclosure anyway... . That stuff needs to be replaced by a non-particulate substrate such as newspaper, butcher paper, linoleum...etc.

I wish I could help you with the sure fire solution to the milky glass. I have the same problem with mineral deposits from our well water.

Tomorrow as soon as I have all the lumber painted for the new iggy enclosure I have to go to Lowes and get indoor/outdoor carpet for the floor and sun ledge in the new enclosure and I'll get a couple of extra feet for the 50 gal aquarium. I'm going to put the 55 back down in the rat/mouse barn and experiment so we will all know what removes these deposits.

Hey Fran. Have you tried using lemon juice and white vinegar to remove the deposits? It sounds strange but mixed together into a paste with a little salt, they usually remove a multitude of sins. Obviously I don't know for certain that they will take care of saltwater deposits but hey, it's worth a try

My daughter and I drove over to Brandon (right below Tampa) and I bought a van full of 40s 50s and 55s. The guy we got them from runs an aquarium service setting up and maintaining aquariums in professional offices and he didn't knowof a sure fire way to remove it. He said that that was why he disliked salt water setups. It ruined the aquariums.
