upper respitory infection

Guess who has one???? Sally...my baby girls been blowing massive bubbles out of her nose all day...its just running out..this is the first time ive ever had this happen to her..the bubbles I mean...and judging by the maount of snot?? coming out of her nose its pretty bad ..i mean its not just a little..its constantly running...ive made her a vet appt....as for now ive got her in the 60 gallon..i raised her temps and humidity...how long des it take for an upper respitory infection to develop?

I'm not sure on how long it takes to develop, but I know that some lizards can get them from having TOO MUCH humidity, so you might want to look into that.

Poor Sal, keep us updated!

Sorry, who's Sally? - a WD? Is this one that you have just taken in?

I would say get it straight to a vet, but you've already made a vet appt, which is great. Also you are keeping her quarantined which is great - was she kept with another lizard before? If so you might want to think about having that one checked over too, as the infection could have spread but the other might not yet be presenting symptoms.

What have you raised temps and humidity to? A temp increase can help, but as moshpitrockchick said, high humidity can be a cause of RI.

Generally, you want to lower the humidity when a RI occurs. This is to help the excess liquid mucous dry up. Reptiles can't exactly cough like mammals do to expel the mucous. Raising the humidity can and will worsen the problem. Raising the temps is a good idea, but not too hot. Slightly higher temps than normal will boost the immune system to help the animal fight the infection.

Good luck and I hope Sally gets well soon.

I've never had a reptile with a respiratory infection *knock on wood*, so I don't know much about them, but I sure hope Sally feels better soon! Taking her to the vet is definitely the right thing to do!

Hehe, ohk..sally is my oldest and biggest Chinese Water Dragon..and lol, all of them have been recently taken to the vet...she was housed with one of my other Chinese Water Dragon, Jack...who I moved into a 60 gallon, which had shock in it and shock went into a 30 gallon (hes 12 in and a little cramped ) so I will lower the humidity to 70% snd I raised her temp to 90 on the warm side...lol, when I called my vet he said again? this time exam is free lol, its gonna save me $60 also its the same day as shocks abscess check up...so wish the little guy luck!!
