Colored Pillbugs and Firebrats

Anyone (with terrarium experience I suppose) know of a website selling either of these two types of insects? I have found a few websites selling the pillbugs, but not the specialty ones (I was told there are colored ones available?????). Any guidance would be appreciated.

I've seen pillbugs and rolliepollies both for sale on kingsnake before, but for almost a dollar a peice and not cultures, more than likely just harvested outside by someone. You can try biosierra.com, they have alot of cultures and colonies. I've never seen colored ones, I don't think they exist, there may be tropical ones that have some pigments but not really colored, I could be wrong.

Let me know if you find some, I haven't done anything too extensive but I don't believe either are readily available atm.

I ordered them from www.wardsci.com for about $11 for 45 or so. I got them there before also so I know they are good. But I know they are available in orange because I saw a picture of someone's "culture" from a show marked as "ORANGE". But I guess it really doesn't matter - not like I'm going to see them anyway.

Just to nitpick, isopods (pillbugs, woodlice, rollypollies, etc) are crustaceans, not insects I swear Scott had some not too long ago, but maybe I was mistaken. There is a species of orange isopods, I think they're native to Italy or something. I checked his pricelist, but didn't see any. You can check the site and email him if you like:

Being on several invert forums, I see them for sale now and then. Never seen firebrats available though. I'll ask around.

It doesn't. I just made up this elaborate terrarium and thought it wouldbe nice to have "exotic" pillbugs. But then I just kept thinking.... "they live under rocks/wood/etc, they only come out at night... what the **** do I want to waste my money on more expensive bugs (sorry, Crustaceans)??" I ordered the grey ones like everyone has in their backyard. (Well, everyone but me apparently - maybe they're not native in South Florida???) I remember playing with them all the time as a little girl in PA. Just the one to go for the unusual, I guess. But as far as I know, other than color, they are identical.

To the best of my knowledge, the orange ones are not capable of rolling into a ball. I'm more accustomed to the non-rolly pollies anyway though. However, if you look in the right areas, you should be able to find isopods in your area. I'm with you. The slight orange color and fact that they'd hide much of the time doesn't make them worth a dollar a piece.
