Fruit flies -- anti-feeders
This is getting annoying. I have a swarm of fruit flies in my apartment. I have been trying to keep any produce inaccessible to them but still have food offered to my ig a few hours a day.
Any ideas on how to get rid of these pests? I can’t shoot them for obvious reasons. I don’t see myself chasing micro flies with a vacuum cleaner as being effective. I can’t figure out how to set up a cross breeze well in my studio apartment.

We have an electric fly swatter...it fries them...although it probably would be time consuming to sit beside Bob while he eats and zap flies...although you really get into it....other than that I can't be of any help

Mark,
A nice dark beer in a small dixie cup will attract a ton of the flies. Also a nice wide mouth jar with vinegar or wine in the bottom and an old peice of fruit submerged but still exposed then add a few drops of dish soap to the vinegar or wine to relieve the surface tension. That will just catch loose ones, they must be feeding on something besides just bob's food. |

i agree with the beer in a cup or cap idea- it works. you can also buy some of those yellow strips that they sell in places that sell plants (home depot for example) that you are supposed to put on a stick in a plant pot to get rid of white fly ... I've found that if you put them in areas where the fruit flies are concentrated (not near ig of course) they also help to capture the flies. maybe near the beer bait.
