need help asap

My fire bellied toad maybe sick. He has little white spots or bumps all over him but not on his back. He eats and swims just as he always has. The only thing that is different is the spots/bumps.
I am very upset so if anyone has had this probelm or knows what it is and how to treat it please respond.
Thank you,
Cheryl

Hello,

Hopefully it isn't anything serious. I myself have no experience with frogs and toads, so I am of little help.

Good luck! Hopefully someone will be along to help you shortly.

I went to the pet store and brought some rid ich which claims to treat other fungal diseases as well. I hope it will work. I pray that he will not die. I'm going to try that medicine before I call a vet because my mom's fish had ich and it looks just like that.
Thanks for responding so soon.

Although I have no idea what this is...it would probably be best to quarantine the little guy in a separate room and don't handle any of your other pets after you handle him and wash your hands really well after you do handle him or any parts of his cage.

White spots are a sign of fungal infections. The ick meds should help. A 5% solution of betadine in water may also be a good idea. Adding trace amounts of aquarium salt to the water in the enclosure can help too, but make sure its VERY small amounts. The bacteria should have a difficult time surviving when there's salt present.

Infections are common among pet store amphibians because they're housed in cramp conditions with other sick individuals. They rarelt are housed under the proper conditions, and are often mixed with species they are not compatable with. Since your frog is new, I'd bet its the pet store's fault, not your own, that the toad contracted the infection.
