fire bellied toad

Hi. I have a few questions. I set up a water tank for my toad. It has 2 inches of water covering over large stone gravel and a floating lilly pad. I have a pump and some land areas like a water turtle dock and some old water bowls that I just turned upside down. My questions are about heat and a hide and moss. I just brought a under water heat mat. It is for a 5 gal. tank I have a ten gal. tank. Do you think that it will work? And is it safe to use? It goes under the gravel. I just want it for the winter because where I live we don't use the heat to much. You know the price of gas is crazy, and I have a big house. Also I want to put half a wooden log on top of the upside down water bowls as a hide. Will it mold if it gets wet? And if it does can I just wipe it off daily? And if I put moss floating in the water you know as another hide will that mold and is that a good idea? If you think I have done something wrong in my setup please let me know. I am very grateful for all the help. One last thing should I use spring water or just add reptisafe to tap water and if so how much for 2 inches of water? And should I add another inch or no? Again thankyou from the bottom of my heart, Cheryl
The toad is not in this tank yet only when I feel it is safe for him will I add him.

From what I read there,,it seems they really don't require a temp that warm,,make sure with the heater that it doesn't get too high.

Ken's link is a great one on fire-bellied toad care. However, the temperature requirements depend on what species of fire-bellied toad you have. While some species prefer temps in the low 60s, oriental fire-bellied toads prefer water temps between 75 and 80 degrees. Since the vast majority of fire-bellied toads sold in pet stores are oriental, make sure the temp doesn't fall too low. These toads are hardy though, and will also easily handle water that falls lower than 70 degrees.

no need for heating. Add a little more water depth as well. Up to 5 inches is great with some land areas and a water filter that is not so strong that it blows the toads away every time they get near it. If you want to slop the gravel to make a land area and a water area of about 3 inches then thats fine as well. Do a google search and research more.
