i gave my boys some rats for the first time yesterday,Fletcher my corn took it with no problem but Kaa my Brazilian Rainbow Boa didn't want nothing to do with it.i ended up putting a cut in the rats head and then he took it.am I going to have to do this every time,i wouldn't care if I had to but it is kind of gross.is it possbile he just doesn't like the rats.

Rats have an entirely different odor than mice, so I am sure in time he will take it without cutting....at least he took it...best wishes...Lyn

Try to rub a mouse on a rat,I read that somewhere,but as rats smell much stronger,I don't know if it works the other way round.But it's always worth a try

I've used and highly recommend the scenting trick: you can buy an F/T mouse to rub on the rats and refreeze it once or twice, then throw it out. You probably won't have to scent the rats more than 2-3 times and then they'll take it without scenting.
Important is to warm the rat up well, try feeding first without scenting it. If Kaa doesn't take it, take the rat out and rub the mouse on it (especially the head of the rat), then try again.
With each feeding always try the rat "pure" first and scent only if it's refused. That way you'll know when Kaa has converted.
Good luck! (PS -- it's great he ate it for you. The "braining" trick never worked for me -- so I had all the disgusting mess for nothing!)
