Thanks, Merlin. If the pinkies do get a touch of freezer burn, is it still ok to give them to the snakes? What's the longest you've kept rodents in the freezer?

Just a little touch of freezer burn won't hurt. Now if you have large areas that are tough and dry I would trim that area off or pitch them.

I've never really calculated that but at least 3-4 months.

Thank you again, Merlin....and I also just realized that as my little ones grow (and boy are they growing fast!!! ), they'll need more prey...so if I eventually end up doubling or tripling up on pinkies for each snake they'll go that much faster, so maybe it won't take as long to go through them as I thought.

Hi Juliane
We buy a 6 month supply of frozen rats, rat pups and mice pinkies and have never had a problem.
As long as they're packaged and sealed well in freezer bags, you shouldn't have any problems.

that is very true...

I have witnessed ALOT of people picking up a cheap vacuum sealer, and vacuum sealing when they close the bag. I have heard that if vacuum sealed, they can be frozen for up to 3 years, and if not only 3-4 months. Hope this helps...

Rat pups strike me as being a much too small a food item for a 3 foot snake. Is this because it does not like larger, more appropriate, prey?

Ah the old atlantic language barrier strikes again lol

When our american friends talk about rat pups they don't mean the same as John they are referring to something along the line of a weaner rat....had lots of fun in the past with differences in the names of stuff lol...what we call rat pups they call rat pinks (i think), we say weaner they say pup....can get confusing lol
