Maybe he thinks you named him after Sid Vicious and he's just trying to live up to the name

Try changing the day around once in a while, my snakes don't seem to know the day, but when they see their feeding bin it's like blood in the water.
|
When I say I feed them once a week, I mean approximately because I do frequently vary the day so that sometimes there's a five day interval, sometimes six or sometimes seven...When we went on our trip it was a little longer...
No matter what day I feed, she smells the fuzzies as soon as they start thawing and that's when the "fun" begins with my little "jaws"... or I guess I could call her my little whipper-"snapper"

Then see if she still goes into snapping and all on feeding day without thawing the prey.
|
I'm a little confused about what you mean because I had her out on feeding day a few minutes before I thawed the mice and she was fine...calm, cool, collected and not the least bit snappy.
Then I put her back into her own enclosure, went into the kitchen, got fuzzies from the freezer and put them in warm water. It was after the fuzzies were in the water that she started "pacing the tank" and clearly slipped into feeding mode...just like she does everytime I thaw mice so that getting her to the feeding tank without getting snapped is a real trial...

Thats what I meant,..was she snappy on "feeding day" without the thawing being involved.
Are you thawing them in the same room as she is in. Are you thawing the mice in a baggie or directly into the warm water?

She's never snappy until after the thawing begins...her sense of smell must be incredibly acute...
She's in the living room and the thawing takes place in the kitchen, so it's a different room, but there are two openings between the two rooms and no doors to shut between them. I've been thawing them directly in the water because my daughter's snake at least has always seemed to prefer them wet...but do you think doing it in a baggie might help a lot? I hadn't thought of that...maybe it would be enough to keep the scent in the air to a minimum...?

My fingers agree completely...they don't like getting snapped at I'll let you know how it goes next time I feed her.

smallgrayfox,
I have a question ... are you handling the mice, and not washing your hands before you go and get the snake? I would think that if you are handling the mice, and then going to get the snake, the smell on your hands would drive the snake wacky. Just curious!

Hello,
She washes her hands following the handling of the fuzzies. She even tried an alcohol rub to help extinguish the scent. (Previously posted somewhere in this thread.)

update
Just an update since we had another feeding day....
This time, I thawed the mice in plastic bags in the warm water instead of in the water directly....as they thawed, I watched Ky-Lin...she did NOT start "pacing" or acting like she knew dinner was in the works....so....I washed my hands carefully, I took a deep breath, and then I went to her enclosure....as I took the lid off I watched for signs of feeding mode...nothing....just her usual "pick me up and take me out, please!" act she always does as she stretches up to the the top of the tank. I took her out, no snaps, no problems! I even got brave enough to walk THROUGH THE KITCHEN with her, RIGHT PAST THE THAWING MICE!
Guess what???!!!! She was FINE!
She didn't have a clue dinner was coming until I put her in the feeding tank and dropped it in front of her! That is SO COOL!!!
Thank you so much everyone for all your help with this problem. I'm thrilled it seems to have been solved by simple plastic bags! Now....we'll see if it works next time too...
