If plant bulbs were good enough...the UVB companies would have no business...no sorry plant bulbs are for plants...Stick with the proper uvb bulbs....without them, your iguana will suffer....Lyn

No, I don't believe so. Plants and iguanas have different needs.
For example, exo-terra sells 2.0, 5.0 and 8.0 UV tubes.
8.0 are recommended for carnivore/omnivore reptiles, 5.0 for herbivore reptiles like igs for example and 2.0 are recommend for plants or reptiles without UV requirements since the UVB output is very small.
From what I know, any common house bulb outputs the same amount of UVB than the 2.0 tube so you see, it would be like having your ig without UVs.

Definetley get 2 seperate bulbs, you can buy a combo hood with space for 2 or more bulbs at once I asked a guy at the pet shop the same question and he said ne was fine but this is not true ESPECIALLY for Iguanas who really depend on UVB to survive.

Hello,
Unless I am mistaken, "plant lights" emit higher levels of UVA which is to promote photosynthesis. They produce low level UVB or none at all.
This is just a recollection that I am having, so I don't want to be quoted.
If you are looking for a quality lighting unit for your iguana, check out Reptile UV.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Rich is right. Most plants don't require UVB, just UVA, so a plant is no good for an ig.
