Interesting idea, I don't know if any research has been done with this. You have a very good point, night time in the forest or desert is alot brighter than it is in a dark rooom, not to mention most of the light getting into a dark room isn't the same as moon light, in that it affects the pupil, while moon light would cause less dialation of the pupil. I don't beleive they 'need' the light. I don't think nocturnal lizards would need the night light either. If you want a night light to monitor your herps at night the blue/black ones cause less dialation than the red ones.
