Missing Iguana: Dundas, Ontario
Hi all, this is a bit of a long shot but I'm posting here just in case.
Garthok is a 4-5 foot long adult male green iguana. On Saturday (October 11) I opened the window to his room so he could get some air. Sometime between 8pm and 11:30pm he managed to push the screen out of the window and escaped to the outdoors. As soon as I discovered the escape I spent the night with a flashlight looking for him. And all of the next day. I've put up posters, and spoken to most folks in the neighbourhood, enlisted the kids in neighbourhood, sent out an ATV search party and still no sign of him. Don't think he would have gone any further than the front yard in the cold dark, so if he was around someone would have found/seen him sunning himself (he's a huge lizard for crying out loud!).
About 10:30pm a black pickup truck pulled into our neighbours driveway. The neighour says she saw someone get out, pick up something on the front lawn and drive away. I saw the truck drive away, but at the time I didn't know Garthok was missing.
I'm hoping someone had the best of intentions and Garthok will show up at the shelter. He's coming off breeding season and will be hungry and grumpy when he warms up and I don't want to wish a big grumpy lizard on anyone, even if he is a vegetarian.
If anyone hears anything, please contact me at >Phone Number Removed By Moderator<. I've raised Garthok since he was a few weeks old (he's 8 now) and I'm beside myself with worry. He went missing the Moxley/Old Brock area in Greensville (Dundas, Ontario, Canada).
Thanks for any help!
Ron Elliott

Good Luck Ron! You might try setting up a warm cage outside that he can get into...

Re: Missing Iguana: Dundas, Ontario
I'm sorry that you lost your iguana, hopefully he turns up. Around here you can't give an iguana away, I couldn't imagine someone stealing one. Hopefully he will return soon.

Re: Missing Iguana: Dundas, Ontario
I would be calling all the vets and shelters in the area. You never know where it ended up.

Re: Missing Iguana: Dundas, Ontario
Thanks for the encouragement. I've notified all of the shelters, the vet in the area who sees reptiles and the local reptile store. I've also been invited to do a few minutes on the local talk radio station to plead for his safe return.
I'm really concerned that someone took him rather than knocking on the door. He would have been cold and docile when they picked him up, but wouldn't have stayed that way for long.

That's great. Can you perhaps also get with one of your local news stations?

Re: Missing Iguana: Dundas, Ontario
Hey all, good news. I found a cold limp Garthok on the next door neighbors roof. He's skinny and dehydrated after 10 days in the cold, but he's alive.

And keep an eye on him for respiratory problems!
