Re: Slimy Greens

I just checked out the site and it is out of my price range. LOL I don't even want to think about shipping. I'm feeding 1 Iggy, 5 Bearded Dragons and 4 Russian torts right now (I'm glad the boxies are sleeping).

Re: Slimy Greens

I too know the slimy greens well. I am in Michigan also. I think it is just the state of our shipped in greens this time of year! I just threw out some greens today that had gone bad. Don't have the chickens anymore to feed them too, so they go in the garden where once the snow melts they will be absorbed into the ground. How much snow did you get in that last storm? We had 14-16 inches, but today most of it left, I spent the whole day driving in the pea soup thick fog taking my girls back to college. Their college is over towards Battle Creek, and they didn't have anywhere near as much snow as we did. Freya (the ig) and Zena (the Tegu) were really upset they didn't get to go along this time. Before I came home I stopped at Meijers and picked up more collards, green beans, pineapple, green peppers, mustard greens, squash, melon and a few other of her favorites. My husband says the critters get fed better than he does! I have read you can use canned veggies and frozen fruits, but I think after all she's been through there's nothing like fresh. I have a garden that's about an acre (I used to can a lot before my knees went bad) and so this summer it will probably hold more greens than normal. My kids were always the odd ones that took things like green peppers and cucumbers, etc to school for snacks, they preferred them over other snack foods. I had a dog that would pick his own green peppers and squash and eat them! My oldest daughter at the time would tell on him, because they always fought over the veggies!

Re: Slimy Greens

I use the vegetable bags from Ziploc. They have holes in them to allow moisture to escape. Usually last about 5-6 days in there.

Re: Slimy Greens

i have the same problem... mine only last 2 days.
I just go shopping every 2 days...

it sucks... but they're always fresh.

I buy 2 days worth, cut up dinner, and put the rest in the fridge, cut up dinner the next nite, and go shopping on the 3rd day for dinner, and start over...

Just tried to find the vegetable bags at the grocery chain store and they didn't have any. I'll try one of the other stores in the area. Wish me luck!
