Thank you Lacey, I did not know that. Our previous reptile vet was the one who gave us that information. My daughter also works at MSU in food safety, epidemiology & toxicology center, which is near the animal health facility, and the people she had talked to said the test was good. That really changes a few things we thought we had known from a good source. I had never brought it up with our current reptile vet, as we had thought we had our answer from the other reptile vet. (We changed vets when a new office with more extended hours and emergency hours [the other vet had told us we had to wait 3 days before we could bring in an emergency once, so we immediately looked for another one and were recommended by several people to use the new one] opened closer to us). Okay, getting long winded. Thank you.

Re: Baby on the way, a human one!

I agree with what shell said. I had many iguanas when my younger two kids were born,, a year apart frome each other. The ones that were caged in very large cages in the shop, I used a pair of slip on mudboots to walk in there and clean their cages,, they were taken off right by the doors to their cages when I was done. I also put my hair up in a bun so it would not drag into anything grosse ( I still do that, lol). Find a humongous shirt you can throw over your clothes and some humongous pants,,take them off when you are done, throw them in the wash, wash your hands,,and you are good to go. My kids were never ill from salmonella because I practiced strict hygeine. They are now 8 and almost 7. The older two never had any problems either.
This may sound like a lot but really it is only a couple of minutes to do these precautionary things daily.
Congrats on the new baby,, I hope you dont have to get rid of the baby as stated in your original post, lol
