Vanodine is what I use. Dont have to worry about anything with it. Same thing with Virosan (Nolvasan) Both are safe. Ive used vanodine for close to a year I will say with no ill effects, and it cleans the tanks easy, wipes away the poop and anything.

I use dish soap and bleach depending on what tanks I am working on. Its very possible that antibacterial soap could kill the Leopard Geckos, if they could ingest it though. So long as you are rinsing everything thoroughly, there will be no issues. I have been using the bleach and dish soap for YEARS. lol If I wasn't using one or the other, I wouldn't know what to use!

I don't really know about soap or dish soap, actually. I use this brand of natural cleaning products my mother used to sell. The selling part is kind of a pyramid scheme, but the products are pretty good. They have a germicide and cleaning agents that are completely animal safe if used correctly, and work so well I've never tried to use anything else.

I would think, though, that as long as you rinse everything thoroughly and there's no chance they can swallow the soap, it probably couldn't hurt the animals.

The mixture of bleach and water you need is 1 part bleach to 5 parts water. And I would not pour hot water into a tank. Too much danger of the glass cracking.
I suspect the source of the story is a confusion in the actual product. A while back there was a story going around about the waterless antibacterial hand sanitizers that are so widely used as being dangerous. It had to do with the alcohol content in it and a young child having ingested enough to give the child alcohol poisoning.

Clean tanks I use diluted bleach, a dash in a 1/2 a gallon or so.
To sanitize tanks I use isopropyl alcohol. It evaporates easily and leaves no residue. I wipe down with a towel with isopropyl then polish with coffee filters.

coffee filters,,,,, I have been stuck so many times when I didnt realize I ran out of paper towels. I have never thought of coffee filters, excellent idea! I will remember that the next time I am in the middle of a cage and realize I have no paper towels, lol.
