All Universities offer Biology. In most cases this is the route you will have to go and simply take courses that are more into what you want to do. (ex. Animal Biology). Some even have courses of Zoology, which may also only represent a Biology Class your school offers. Ext. ext.

Take a look at the school you want to go and find out about their programs.

OU (Oklahoma) and Kansas State happen to have good Herpetology Courses. Same with UF (Floirda).

Just find out about courses schools offer, and go from there. Very few schools offer just a "Herpetology" class.

You can also look into colleges that offer veterinarian courses. I'm working on getting our local community college to offer a week long herp class. They are willing if I can help find a teacher.

then I think you mite be jumping into something maybe a little to large. You can learn alot about reptiles by reading. Going to university to become a herpetologist is a real big step. Becoming a herpetologist also has very little to do with the keeping of reptiles.

Read some scientific papers from herp journals and get an idea of what is involved. If you are real serious about it though then I suggest you just start reading. Learn about all your local herps to start with....learn latin names.....scale counts...everything! Read read read....

Studying to become a herpetologist is not what you see on tv( steve irwin etc.)

don't mean to sound nasty...just my 2 cents. I too want to become a herpetologist....am on my way there but there is no set path to becoming one. Even if you finish your studies, becoming a paid herpetologist is almost impossible. Volunteer with research gouing around do what ever you can to stick your head in there.

Actually I'm not that far from you so if something is set up I'll let you know, I do have a few leads on instructors.

i know it isn't gonna be like steve irwin... he was a cool person from what I seen on t.v. and everything and I would LOVE for that to happen with me but I doubt it will. but i'm not sure what I wanna do... but I want to take classes on herp's and just get more knowledgable about it.

I wouldn't rule out college completely. If nothing else, a degree of any sort will get you into more doors then without.

Also, if you want to learn more, many of us have specific knowledge about certain animals and a broad aray of knowledge about things you probably didn't care to know. Just read as said above and anything you can't figure out, I'm sure someone here will know.
