Can anyone advise a really good filed guide to north american herps... i can tell you virtually every latin name to any south african snake from back home... some scale counts...locality etc....

but I could tell you nothing about any american snake lol. I am here in CO at the moment and would love to get a really nice field guide with pics to identify the herps I can find when it gets nearer to summer.

WOW, that is hard, Where are you at in the states? Best bet would be to go to a book store or something. Ill check on amazon, but I cant think of one that is good.

Yeah I think the best thing to do is go find a bookstore and look throught them. They can order them for you or you can amazon it, but it would be good to look at it if you could.

Barnes & Nobel bookstores seem to have a pretty good selection...also if you sift through the "field herping" forum I know that I have asked atleast once for referals to good guides.
