uth size question?

Hi

I am sure my fiance is getting a 20 long for my gecko/me for christmas =) but I have to get the Under Tank Heater...so should I get a 30-40 gallon size since that is the floor space of that tank or the 20 gallon size that I have will work? I am not sure if I already asked this before so sorry...

Plus, the safe kind of glue/seal I can get for the floor/tile or slate I am going to get>thanks again!

yeah! I can't wait, plus I think a gift card to get hidey rocks and possibly a second leo!

He is mad at me cause I didn't give much ideas for him to buy me...even though I gave a bunch that he didn't like or wnat to do....so it is my fault he waits till today to go shopping ~ lol

I stopped buying Under Tank Heater's a few years ago due to there cost and the fact that most have to be stuck to the bottom of the tank. Whne you upgrade tanks the Under Tank Heater becomes un-reliable. I just buy regular human heating pads now from Walmart or a drug store. Much cheaper.

Same here....Much easier and they are re-usable.

Just be sure not to get the kind of heating pad with that safety feature that automatically turns it off after 20 minutes...

You want heat on just one end of the tank, Paige, so the Under Tank Heater should be smaller than the tank bottom (about 1/3 - 1/2 the size). Right, guys?

30-40 gallon Under Tank Heater, and get some foil tape. It may cost a bout 5 bucks, but leave the stick pad on and just tape it to the tank. What ive done wiht all mine till I got flex watt. Or you can take the stick paper of and get clear packing tape and tape to the sticky and it will save it.

Also a Cobra or a exo terra will be easier to tape as they arent as thick as zoo meds. Or if you want to be fancy Flex watt. just need a stat for it.

I'm another human heating pad user. I have to laugh when the clerk ask if if I want to by and extended warranty. Like the company would replace a heating pad that is use at least 12 hours a day.

you can't reuse uths. Removing them and adding them to something else can cause problems and fires. What you CAN do to make them reuseable is put them on a sheet of glass and put that under the tank. As for sizes you usually cover 1/3 to 1/2 the bottom of the tank.

ok, thanks...but I don't use the sticky...I just sit it under the tank whichis propped up on those feet things that come with the Under Tank Heater....The floor still gets warm...actually really warm...but if I do get the new 20L then the 30-40 gallon one will be the right size right>ok....so what about the glue/seal for the tile floor? ummm what type of slate or tyle will be best? like smooth or what ever? Thanks so much!

You shouldnt have to do anything to the tile, unless you never wnat it to come out. Just get it cut to size and youll be ok. Take out when dirty.

And ive re used uths that have been stuck. All work fine. Its called Goof off, no more glue and a putty knife slowly. Works like a champ.
