Mine started brumation on their own, even though I didn't change anything. First one went into brumation in September (same food, temps, etc.) now as that one is coming out of it the other started it's brumation. They went off their feed on their own and started burrowing in and sleeping, only coming out ocassionally to bask and take a few laps of water.
This is what they do before breeding season, which is usually in last spring. Head bobbing, side nipping, one circling in front of the other. If the female is not receptive she will flip on her back to refuse the male. That doesn't always mean she can't be impregnated, just unlikely. It also doesn't mean she won't be receptive next time, just not available that time. I know you want to find out about breeding habits because you care about Uros. It's good to know all you can before jumping into something. So it's great you are asking questions. Keep in mind I respect you for asking. It is definitely not the thing to try though until you understand the species. Without some serious study on the breed and a long term commitment breeding is not recommended. It's a complicated when it comes to incubating and hatching eggs. Then newly hatched Uros require special care too. Please, for their sake study them well before getting into breeding them. |
