Flooring?
Well as you knwo I have been working on my closet enclosure, and I have two oak wood shelves that my iguana cant grab to well, or at all for that matter, whats a good thing to use that he can cling to well but also that I can clean easily? Also, what should I use on the walls, they are plain white right now, maybe get some artifical vines or something? Also, what can I do to keep the humidity and temperture high?

Re: What to use
I think a good idea for the wall for it to climb would be a sturdy piece of trellis that is attached so it can easily be removed. Plastic trellis would be best, but you could use wood. You could even attach vines etc to it so it looks more natural.
For keeping the humidity up in an enclosure that size I would think either a fogger or misting system would work well. Either that or a large pan with washed rock and water in it. Heating could be tougher unless part of it is screened in front. If it is you could get an adjustable room heater to direct at it. If not you'd need to do some duct work for it to blow through. It could even be directed at the pan of rock/water to circulate the humidity. Just some ideas... Kenn |

My big iguana enclosure is heated by a 250 watt Ceramic Heat Emitter.
On Zoks shelf I nailed a small strip of wood to the front of it creating a lip that protudes upwards that she can get a grip on to access the shelf. The walls being white is not a problem unless you just don't like it from an aesthetics veiwpoint. If so you can paint a mural or some such on them. The lattice work with some vines is also a good idea as long as your ig doesn't decide the leaves onthe vines would make a good snack. some will try to eat them. For humidity you could go with a cool air or warm air humidifier. If using the warm air you will have to duct it so that the ig can't come in contact with the hot steam coming in.

So I could just use a regular room humidefier to create warm steam and that will create the humidity right? Will it keep the bottom and middle of the enclosure cooler than the top where his basking spot will be?
Good thing, because I have one laying around somewhere. I used to use it for my room. Could I just use like an old shirt or something for the shelves? Got a couple of old green ones too. What are plastic trellis? Also, I have a metal wire rack which the light will be on, the rods are about half an inch wide, that should filter out much of the UVb right? Should I get another UVB bulb from reptileuv and put two of them up for his basking spot? |

The top of the endlosure will always be warmer than the bottom. Heat rises.
You could use a shirt but you will need to secure it so that the ig can't get tangled up in it (or start swallowing it! )With that size opening you will be fine. The problem arises when people try to use screen such as window screen between the animal and the bulb. Plastic trellis is found in lumber yards and garden stores. It is the criss crossed lattice used for shading an area or as a support for vining plants.

Screens and UV light
Generally screens with larger holes than window screen doesn't block UV rays much. Glass and plexiglass will block UV, or at least greatly diminish it's effectiveness.
You'll have to show us some pics if you can sometime. ![]() |
