Uro shedding Issues??
My Uro Irwin his tail has not completely shed yet. I pulled off half of it but I can't get the rest off. He doesn't stay still enough for me to get the rest off plus I really don't like taking it off unless I really have to but I think I have to. It's been there for probably a month now. I know it takes them long to shed. I just may be paranoid? Does anyone have a uro and has had this problem? Or is this normal? Or what? Please any suggestions will help. I have his temps at 110-130 daytime-75-80-85 at night He basks pretty much all day and takes his naps but he's out and about all the time. He eats like a pig to!

Re: Shedding problem
I have 2 Uros, one sheds really good and fast, the other likes to hang on to his a long time. A few things I'v tried with limited success is soaking him in water around 115F - 120F for about 10 min. or so, followed by a light coating of triple antibiotic ointment. It still takes a while but so far that's what works best.
The spray you can buy for helping them shed doesn't work for mine. I've sprayed him REAL good a number of times and it didn't seem to help at all. I've also tried corn oil on his skin, very limited success. Raising humidity levels, no good, plus I've read it can cause respiratory problems. Both of mine like dandelion heads before shedding. But once they start won't eat them any more. Not sure why? All in all, soaks, ointment, time, and patience is what it seems to take. Hope it helps. I know it's annoying, for you and your Uro. Kenn |

Do you have a chamber with higher humidity? A quick soaking will not always help. With a humid chamber to spend the nights he will soak up moisture for over eight hours. When basking during the day he will dry out so you don't have to worry about any issues related to the humidity levels. In the wild Uros dig down deep and spend a lot of time in moist burrows.

Re: humid hide
Thanks for asking. Yes I do have a humid hide for them. One sheds no problem. For the winter I built them a special cage with around 8-10" of a mix of bird seed/peat/top soil/sand so they could burrow. That bird seed alone just didn't co-operate when they tried to burrow in it. LOL They are indoors not out. Then I put some 8x12x2 patio blocks in like a cave, filled and surrounded by the mix for stability. They burrowed right in and love it. Both hide/burrows are the same, still only one has problems shedding.

Thanks! I will try that! He let me peel a little off each day I fully have it off now. But his face is shedding on oneside now so if I have problems I wrote down everything you told me! Thanks I will try it! He will also obviously shed again, so i'm sure I will have to refer to it!
