2-kenyan sand boas couple questions about water!
Hello,
Just wanted some opinions here please. I had bought 2 kenyan sand boas this sat. at the northern berks reptile show. I do have a male and a female. I was wondering if you should keep a water dish for them in the tank. I heard yes at all times, I heard NO not at all, and I also heard yes , but only like 3 times a week, I also was told just during breeding. I'm not sure what I want to do? Someone please help? Thanks! |

From what I have read by doing research...They dont do well with humid areas so I would venture to say, only put the water in 2-3 times per week, not everyday.

i think keeping sand boas is similar to keeping rosys though I could be wrong. since I have a rosy and am familiar with them and done some reading on them. i know that they don't like humid environments at all so i've had success with just using a water dish a couple days a week. i feed on saturdays so I put a dish in then and take it out on monday. hope this does something to help.
been doing fine for the two years that i've had him.

well I have asked some people that I know that keep em... they have water avaliable at all times. But just watch the humidity...for example don't place it under basking light or make the water bowl too big.
Keep humidity at 50%.... well I have never kept them but as long as your humidity is fine keeping a water bowl in at all times shouldn't be a problem. |

Thanks!
Thanks Everyone I think I am only going to put it in like every two days or so and see how that works. Yesterday I pulled them out 1 at a time and held them to the water dish, my female drank alot. My male wasn't interested. I have them in a 10 gal. tank right now with aspen bedding to dig in, i will not use sand or anything. Anyone appose the aspen? If so, please tell me what your using and y. Thanks

i don't think aspen is a problem. you just want to stay away from like pine and cedar because of the oils in it are bad for herps. at least thats what i've heard and read a few times so I think thats why.

what about northern white pine like the stuff for hamsters? Not cedar? Is it really bad or will it be ok? I don't feed them on it so it's not possibly digested. I just want to make sure it's safe? Thanks

Pine is not safe. Stick with aspen.

Pine has the same problems as cedar. Any of the resinous woods are a no no.
Its my understanding that pine is not that great for rodents either.
