night lighting?

Hi. i had my iguana in my room for a while but I thought that it would be good for him to be able to see someone and other animals during the day instead of him being gy himself in my room all day. i moved him there about 5 days ago. i woke up this morning to find him on top of his plant and he was cold he spent the whole night there!!! he let me grab him and move him and he didn't even fight or run away I moved him under the light then he became more active. i have a red heat light for at night is this the right light? or should I use a blue one or what? can someone help me with this dilema his tank light isthe only one on at night. i have ordered some UVB tube lights and they should be in on thursday. i am building him a bigger enclosure. should I have 1 of the 2 tube lights on at night, cause they don't make uvb night bulbs. and should I change the color of the night heat light that he has now? can someone please suggest some night and day lights I should use for my Green Iguana. thanks chris.

Personally, I use a blue one, just because they are a lot darker, and give off that moonlit forest like feeling for the iguana. Plus those red ones are way to bright for me to sleep with...I use a 75 watt one for night, going to get a 100 watt maybe, not sure.

You don't need a UV light on at night. You don't (or rather your iguana doesn't) want the lights on 24 hours a day. Just like us they need a light/ dark cycle to keep their biological clock on track. Constantly being lit up will stress them.
Its normal for the environment to get a bit cooler at night.
No sun=cooler temperatures.
If the temperature in the enclosure dosen't drop below 72-75 degrees at night no supplemental heat is needed. I personally don't beleive the stuff about reptiles not being able to see the "night" ights. I have seen too many animals looking right at them. For night time heat I prefer a ceramic heating element. All heat no light.

Hello,

You will need to play with the heating elements to get the correct gradient. you would be better off NOT buying the bulb and starting with the heat emitter.

I agree. With the Ceramic Heat Emitter you will take care of all your heating needs. Its a little more expensive to start with but it will save you a lot of money in the long run since they last for years. Having to replace those colored petstore bulbs every couple of weeks will pay for your Ceramic Heat Emitter pretty quickly.

Mine are above the wire top to the enclosures. You need to have it where there is no way that the ig, or any thing else, can come in contact with it or knock it off. These things get VERY hot! And you will need a porcelin socket to put it in. the regular plastic type light sockets will melt quick!
