Lighting
Hey. i have a young iguana and I bought a white heat light for it it is designed for the iguana and is full spectrum I also got a red one for at night. is this good? today I fed him apple peices, banana peices, kale, and bell peppers is this a good diet for a salad I was told to feed him fruit and vegetables do I need more leaves? will those packaged salads work that u buy at the IGA or Safeway? how is spinach leaves for an iguana? are they good? i have done tons of reasearch but I have gotten mixed info on what to and not to feed an iguana. Is it normal for the skin under the shedding skin to be black after the shedding skin is gone? thanks chris.

Your iguanas diet should consist mainly of dark leafy greens like collareds, mustard, turnip, dandelion, and kale. Bagged salads are not healthy. Neither is lettuce. Spinach is full of oxalates or phosphates, I don't remember which one but they ind calcium. Bananas, apple and other fruits are occasional treats. Hello,
What is the light called? If you can supply us with the lights name, we can tell you if the light is adequate. From how you are describing it, I don't think it is. It sounds like you got a basking light and not a light that emits UVB. |

The light for during the day is "Sun Glo, Neodymium Daylight Lamp" on the side it says 75W Desert & Tropical terrarium lamp. Basking spot lamp, Broad spectrum Daylight spot lamp for terrariums, creats a basking area for thermo-regulation, increases ambient air temperature, stimulates natural behaviour through UVA rays, can be combined with Night Glo or Heat Glo for 24h cycle. I bought the 75w Heat glo bulb too. on the side it says infrared spot lamp, emits infrared heat waves, excellent 24h radiant heat source, increases overall air temperature in the terrarium, provides heat, essential for activity and digestion, will not disrupt normal activity cycle/ideal for nocturnal veiwing, Can be combined with Repti Glo or Sun Glo for 24h cycle.
thats all it says. are these the right ones. and wut about his skin being black once the dead skin peels off is that normal? |

Hello,
To answer the skin question, we would need to see a picture. Black pigment can be part of the iguanas pattern or it could be something more serious. No, that lighting is not what we were suggesting though. You need a light that produces UVB. Those do not. As suggested in another thread, you should look into the Megaray SB. It can be purchased from here: Reptile UV A good rule of thumb to follow when looking for UVB producing lighting is the cost. If it costs under 20 bucks, you likely have the wrong lighting. |

Those pictures are way too small to be beneficial.

Hello,
Taking a small picture and enlarging it will always disrupt the pixelation. I tried to make one decent image out of those pics and I couldn't. They are too small.Where is the original of those images? |
