I would also not use a wire bristle brush since they have a tendency to leave peices of the wire behind. A vegetable scrubber or stiff nylon bristle scrubbing brush will do it. Check in the paint section of hardware stores.

when I grabbed sticks from my back yard I had boiled them for about 30 mins to take off all the loose peices and to kill all insects and anything the branches were sprayed with and had baked them in the oven at 400 degrees farenheit for about 30-50 mins. then I let it cool off and used my hand to pick off any loose peices or anything that my ig could eat. This has worked for me so far and my iguana is fine and loves the branches I have put in his cage for him. there has been no bugs ad he loves it to bask on.

No pics now, but I got a tall one, about 6 feet tall, really cool, nice and thick so its good when he gets bigger, the other 2 are about 3 or 4 feet. I gotta wash them off soon. and how do I prevent them from like dying and getting really easy to break? Im just douse them with bleach scrub em down with other soap and then rinse them off.

all the ones that I have done have not died yet I think it is because it is so humid in my ig's cage all the time. but it is very thick and also was baked soit shouldn't break if u cleaned them and have supported them properly. well at least thats what I think. none of mine have broken yet.here is a pic of my most recent one that I have cleaned and baked.

They will dry out eventually but I wouldnt worry about breakage unless they are pretty narrow branches. Some of my branches in my enclosures have been there for more than 10 years and they have survived repeated scrubbings with no ill effects.
