Nutrical??

Hello,

Took Stewie (leo gecko) to another vet yesterday for her Metabolic Bone Disease problem. He was familiar with reptiles so I didn't have to explain Metabolic Bone Disease. 3 of her legs seem to be involved now and I was very worried. The vet told me he thought she was actually getting better as I have been giving her calcium and phoenix worms for several days now.

The vet advised me to use human grade supplements instead of reptile products because according to him they are usually unused, outdated human supplements anyway. He gave me a bottle of liquid Nutrical for her and advised me to give her 1/4cc once a day until gone. He explained that Nutrical is a calcium supplement used for pregnant women and that it would help much more that straight calcium. He also wormed her and has told me that she must be wormed twice more over the next month.

I really like this guy and he seems to know what he's talking about. Anyway, Stewie does seem to be getting better slowly but the vet said she would probably never regain full use of her legs . Thanks for your help.

Chris

Hmmm...we use nutrical at the clinic to give cats and dogs their pills, what is the calcium content of the liquid, because the paste that we use is mainly fat and sugar with some calcium thrown in.

I'd be interested to see some pictures of stewies Metabolic Bone Disease because I have a little gecko with SEVERE Metabolic Bone Disease and i'd like to compare.

I thought I would comply with your request...LOL

I took these tonight, the first is somewhat blurry but shows both back legs well, the right front is affected as well.

I will ask the vet about the liquid Nutrical, I looked it up on line but only found the paste variety.
