Pre-shed feeding?????

my king is about to shed as she is dulling and has a slight blue tinge....its supposed to be feeding night tonight and I was wandering should I offer it to her or should I not?

Also this is probably a stupid question but if a snake doesn't take the prey the first time and you leave it over night (f/t by the way not live) and its still not eaten you take it out....can you refreeze the mouse or not?

Im guessing 'not' due to the whole refreezing meat in general rule but not sure if thats a problem for snakes?

Hello,

Its best to wait. You don't want to risk a regurge if the prey is eaten and it would be a waste if it wasn't eaten! lol

You don't want to refreeze a rodent. Once it has begun thawing, it has also begun decomposing.

Thanks for the advice! im not sure how dull or blue she has gone as im at work and will be all day! its just what my partner has said so I will have to wait and see how it goes!

The thing is I got the pinkie out last night to thaw ready for tonight and she was fine and still clear when I put her away so will have to see how it goes thanks

you will see her eyes will go hazey(white/blue) they will then clear up again and she will shed! Ah....just wait for the feeding...don't stress.

as rich said rather don't refreeze a thawed out rodent... i prolly won't be too much of a problem as some snakes eat carrion....ew... but rather be safe! Fresh food! Good luck with the shed...maybe spray once or twice a day to help shedding.

Most colubrids won't feed when in shed, which makes sense. When in shed they are vulnerable and don't see very well. Plus, since the goal is to shed in one smooth peice, having a big lump in them would make the shed more difficult.
As others have stated, having left the pinkie out overnight decomposition has set in. Nothing to do but pitch it.
However on the subject of refreezing. If the pink has only been thawed for a little while, say less than an hour, you can refreeze it and use it later. But only once. When I feed, if the snake will not take it within 10-15 minutes it goes back in the freezer (the rodent,... not the snake!) till next week.
