I need advice guys...
I work in a pet store...
*ducks as people throw things at me* It's a good job, pays well... I get to take care of puppies all day long... I'm a kennel technician there and I love it. We're independently owned so it's not as bad as it COULD BE. Our puppies are all good, our bird department is awesome, the fish are AMAZING.. the only thing that's not up to par is the reptile department. We got a few Bearded Dragons in and the back of the reptile wall is inside the kennel so I'm ALWAYS playing with everything. I kinda take care of everything there.. it's nothing huge but the Bearded Dragons/anoles/ball pythons/hermit crabs No one but me really pays attention to the condition though and it really irritates me. The owner is going to be making some changes and we're kinda working out a better reptile department. Until then though.. grrr... The thing is, when I'm not there the poor Bearded Dragons don't get the right kind of attention. Water dishes get left in, there are no veggies.. lots of things go wrong! I was planning on taking one of the Bearded Dragons home. But I have some things to figure out first. Tank size isn't going to be an issue, but for two Bearded Dragons, what's the recommended tank size? Size in general.. Maia is about 2 inches bigger than the Bearded Dragon at work... is that going to be a problem? I'd quarantine and everything for a while too.. but maybe would it be better for them to reach full grown size and them house them together? Or is is better to introduce them when they're young? I've been thinking about this for a while now, and my boyfriend wants a Bearded Dragon too but he's got grad school for a while. So I was thinking if they didn't get along the new one could be his. I'd get him a setup and everything. Also, is it even POSSIBLE to sex them at that young of an age. I mean it must be.. all these breeders are sexing them, right? I guess it may be more complicated than that.. but sexing would be one of the most important things here. I realllllly want a female. I've thought this out for a while now.. and I really think I've got all bases covered, I'm just filled with questions. Sorry for the ridiculously long post...

Itd be really good if you checked out this forums caresheets for bearded dragons. I think those should answer alot of your questions(which there are alot of and your post is kinda hard to sort through).
For two Bearded Dragons of decent size I wouldn't suggest anything under 55 gallons for a tank. When it comes to sexing young dragons its very difficult before they reach the 6 to 7 months age mark, and even then they may not be large enough to sex. I'm pretty sure that having a beardy thats 2 inches longer may cause the smaller one to get stressed out, but don't hold me to that someone else may be more knowledgeable in that area. Also on the things you tell me about this petshop. You really need to talk to your boss about the herps getting adequate care. I had to bother my boss several times when I was working at a petshop, because we didn't have veggies for the uromastix and tortoises and the employees weren't watering the snakes and such. I got irritated working there because I was only allowed to work three days a week so I would come to work on a friday to find that all the herps hadn't been fed or watered and the snakes hadn't been fed in two weeks...it was somewhat of a problem that I as a fifteen year old could only do so much about besides nag, needless to say I think my nagging made some things get a little bit better for the herps. But you're older and people tend to listen to people who are older. your boss may listen you more than mine did to me...

Joie, all that you can do is try to give them the best of care and keep bothering the owner regarding how the reptiles are cared for. Unfortunately alot of petstore owners are in the mindset that herps don't need daily care, which we all no is NOT the case. if things don't improve you can always place an anonomous call to the local humane society and get them involved.

well the guy gets it. He's actually a really good guy and knowledgable in all fields, except reptiles. Which is why we're kinda working together to figure things out. When I get Maia and Scarlett veggie I usually leave a little ziplock bag at home and take the rest to the shop where I've written on the back of the door who should get what and when.
He's having me make checklists that employees are going to follow and stuff. We have checklists for kennel and birds and fish and now we'll have them for the reptiles too. I've been looking at different "sex your Bearded Dragon" web site.. and I've been looking at Maia (poor little girl) and I *think* I have it... but I dunno... lol
