Caresheet Question
In the Veilded Chameleon Caresheet under the feeding area it shows to feed a young VC "approximately 10 insects daily that are proportionate to the size of the chameleons head"
My question is more of a request for clarification of that quote. Does it mean crickets can be as big as his head? I am unclear of the word "proportinate" in this case. Proportionate to what, would be my question. Thanks, |

I know that the general rule of thumb with lizards is nothing larger in size than the distance between the herps eyes, I don't know if that is the rule for chams because I have never kept them, but hopefully I was helpful anyways.

That makes sense, I have him eating the small crickets. Occaisionally I have seen a couple of the crickets have grown and so far he has not had a real issue.
I will stick to buying the small ones for now. Thank You, |

I feed my veiled insects that are smaller then his head, and he has no prob. taing them. You dont want to give them anything too big as you will risk impaction. My little guy eats about 10 crix a day and 3 silkies

Do you coat the silkw?
My little guy is a hunter and an eating machine. I tried putting crickets in a dish and he showed no interest in eating them. But, let them loose on the bottom of the cage and whamo! I make sure I hang around just to verify he eats all the crickets I drop in. I tried a mealworm or two for a couple weeks and he showed no interest in them. He actuallly came down and walked right up to them to sniff? them then climbed back up and ignored it. I will have to check around the local stores for silks. The local crittermart doesn't carry them. Thanks |
