i DO NOT mean for food! this rat is like a really cherished pet....im serious here guys!
but good news and bad news... good news is that I may not have to give her up after all. bad news is that she has suddenly gooten very mean. today I recieved a severe bite to the bone that bled tremendously. She usually is not like this. Earlier in the day she did have exposure to mint oil my mom sprayed in an effort to keep down flies...anyone know if this is a facotr? also she may be pregnant, do rats undergo personality changes as a result as people do? I know you guys are mainly herp people, but any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks. |

I think alot of rats change there personalitly if she hasn´t been handled latley or feels up set i.e your mum sparyin her cage with sum things she might decide to take it out on some one. My female rat is a`pain she bites alot so do the babys the dad is fine.If you have to get rid of her lyn is a good choice she breeds rats and mice I belive.

ok
didnt think of the handling factor, come to think of it she can get overly um...excited...after a few days of no handling...also turns out that she has not had food in a day...all thats in her bowl is stuff she doesnt like, and when I gave her a cheez it she jumped on it like she hadnt eaten in months...i will make sure the mint stuff is not used near her cage again, in case she doesnt like it. Thanks for the input.

BE NICE! This is a cherished pet!
I am not all that knowledgeable when it comes to live rats but both the hunger factor, the possible pregnancy and the fact that it was "on the run" for a while and could have gone a bit wild may account for the biting.

I have never owned a rat, but I have owned one too many rabbits and some would experience behavior changes when they would be close to having their kits. I have been bitten severely only once by a rabbit and the thing wouldn't let go. I had a 12lb rabbit hanging from my arm (one I had just bought) you guessed it she was a witch when she was breed.
