Rheostat Question

Hi
after searching for a good month at all local pet stores for a 500w rheostat with no luck I went to big als and they said they could order me one. i was able to find the 150 w rhoestats but that would mean I need to buy at least two.

so my question is what kind of heating devices can safely be used with a rheostat??? MV bulbs? heat emitters/projectors??? basking lamps???

thanks

Re: Rheostat Question

I use rheostats for bulbs, Under Tank Heater's and HE's.

Re: Rheostat Question

I'm not sure I'd use a rheostat with a Mercury vapour bulb. That would decrease the amount of UVB produced along with the light/heat. If it would work at all that is.
Just curious........why get a rheostat? Why not a thermostat? Big Al's has some pretty good ones.

Re: Rheostat Question

Using them on a MVB would definitely change the UV output.
