I am working with vinyl encasements right now but the antimicrobial fabrics I have used have very small amounts of silver some times copper. Those don't kill bacteria just prevent growth and I think those are harmless.

Not trying to be offensive but just thinking those are harmless isn't good enough. If you are going to be selling something that is to be put in a living animal's enclosure you have to be absolutely certain that it is harmless.
And copper can be toxic to certain organisms.

Re: Heating

Absolutely no offense taken as a matter of fact I truly appreciate and respect your input. I have not been able to get away from vinyl but I believe there is a place for the woven antimicrobial fabrics. They use this kind of stuff in hospital bedding, nursing homes and the like. I do believe there are some that may be harmful to some exotics though.

I appreciate any information you have to share with me on the subject.

Re: Heating

Sounds like some pretty cool stuff. How expensive are the materials your using? Also what is the wattage of the design?

Re: Heating

About 9.5 watt per lineal foot. The heating element is 12" wide but the encasement will make it about 14". With all the stuff see on ebay I might offer a 4" wide mat. I personally don't understand the need but I'm an ig guy.

A decent transformer will be at least $25. The highest quality are more. The mats will not be hard wired which means quality connectors water proof automotive grade. I am thinking 16" mats that can be connected to additional mats if needed. I'm trying to keep mat cost at about $40 but that my be low because mine will be kits that you can hook up 4 mats to which will include insulation (no manufacturers talk about that) so the system can grow if desired. The transformer will be ably to power 4 mats or 2 32" mats or 1 64".

It's radiant. It works and insulation is the key.
