Help is needed

Hello. About 2 years ago my Bearded Dragon had her leg broken. No bones were out or any cuts or anything. The vet splinted it. It seemed to heal fine. However, she looks like a turtle now! She has not lost weight at all and looks round like a turtle. She seems to only want to eat fruit and crickets and ignores the vegs unless there is nothing else. This year was the first time she hibernated. She is about 4 years old and never did that before now. I thought after that she would have come out thinner but she hasn't. She poops fine and doesn't seem to be hurting or sick just fat! I even took her outside the other day and she just sat there. She can walk because I saw her move around in the tank, but not like she used to. She has laid eggs a few times with only 2 actually making it. I don't know what else could be wrong. Do I have just a fat lazy one or what. We have NO herp vets around here at all. The one we took her to said he knew about them when he set her foot but now I don't know. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to Herp Center Cyndy and Dennis....

I know when they get up in age they tend to get lazier, I have a 4 yr old and 2, 3yr olds and they are all three lazy. They dont normally lose weight when brumating, only ocassionaly. When you say FAT, does she look bloated, has she been with any males? What is her husbandry like (substrate, temps, etc)?

Venus thanks for getting back to me. She hasn't been with a male since before her lag got broke. She looks fat like round like looking at a turtle. We just had her in the tub and she pooped good and we changed the water and she is swimming around. She almost dove in while we were setting up the new clean bath! Also her beard is very saggy. It no longer goes up o her head it just hangs like a "feed bag" ! LOL And she does this weird thing with it like a frog croaking? It's hard to explain. Can we somehow send a picture of her to you?

Yep, sounds like she is just fat and happy. The beard sagging is just part of her age. You can either post a picture here or you can email one to me. I will give you my email via PM.

The greens are very important for her diet. It might be a good idea to cut the fruit out and feed only the salad, maybe just offer a couple pieces of fruit once a week. All that fruit is likely the cause of her being fat. Post a picture here, she sounds cute

After seeing her pics, I definitely agree with Val. Try mixing more veggies in with her fruit and each day put less and less fruit, they may get her interested in her greens again. She really does look like a turtle with a long tail.

Yup, she's fat and happy. Try substituting yams for the fruit, the color seems to attract the dragons. (mine always eat their yams first) lol
