Hookworms are a small nematodes, I believe they infect the digestive tract, literally robbing your animal of its needed metabolic activities. I believe the doc will prescribe panacur for those.

Coccidia is a protozoan. They are passed immaturely through feces, these are known as oocytes. When the oocytes come in contact with another reptile they mature in their digestive tract and then reproduce and pass the oocytes again.

Thats all I really know, if thats even right.

This is why quarantine is vital, as well as a bit difficult at times. Even if they are in separate rooms (which they should be) there is still a chance of infection. Ideally you should change clothes and shower after you take care of your quarantined stock.

Both organisms are transmitted by way of infected feces. If one had it and you handled them without washing your hands in between you could have transferred the organisms. Same if you interchange food or water dishes or clean them at the same time and not sterilize them. They could also be introduced by food that was contaminated or by having them outside in areas where infected animals had defecated. If they tongue flick the grass where the organisms are they are introduced. I beleive that in dogs and cats the hookworms can also move thru the thin skin on their abdomins if the animal lays in an infected area. I don't know if it would work the same way with thick reptilian skin
Coccidia are a naturully occuring organism and most animals have them in limited numbers. If some environmental stress weakens the lizard the coccidia can get out of hand.
Hookwoms are blood eaters that latch onto the intestinal walls and feed on the blood of the animal.
