Cricket or Sand Flea?

Hello everyone,
I have a question for you,... cricket or sand flea? Ok so the other day I go to check on my lizard’s tank. She is currently pregnant and soon to lay eggs. So in the tank that morning I find it covered in bugs! Gross, so I look at the bugs and some are a tan color and some are a bit more brown. They have like 4 or 5 legs at least that what it looks like on the dead ones, they have small antennas some do some don’t. They seem to be attracted to water and only water. So I cleaned her cage talked to a few people got some reptile relief changed and sprayed the new sand bathed her and thought I was done. I was told they were crickets. Well that night I we found them on the window seal in my mom’s bathroom like a ton of them and we found them in the tub in my bathroom none of which my lizard was in.
This morning I looked in her cage and there they were again, not that many but they were there. I immediately took her out, sprayed again, and gave her a bath. This time they were all over her!! (On her under tummy) I couldn’t see them with the naked eye but a bunch came off of her when I was rubbing her down in the water so I took her out sprayed her down with the reptile relief and put her in a separate cage with paper towels.
So I decided to get rid of all the substrate and buy new. (I hope it works) I bathed her she does clean now and no more bugs seem to be on her now. But know she seems a bit stressed out, I feel real bad here she is trying to make a nest and there’s bugs in it and I had to destroy it. What can I do? I’m getting new substrate so I can put her in her more comfortable terrarium. She’s part German giant so you could imagine how cramped she is in her 25 gallon tank. She’s about 2 weeks along with eggs.

Her cage info
60 gallon tank
Reptile sand (not calci sand)
Temp is about 100 in hot spot and 80- in the cool
Humidity is 70

My questions
Are they crickets or fleas?
Will they hurt her or her eggs?
Have I stressed her out to bad to cause egg binding?
What can I do?

Thank you for your input

Do you have pics of these things. Do you have water in her tank?

Re: Cricket or Sand Flea?

Hi,
Yes I had water in her tank, I always leave a some water in her tank. No I don't have pictures, yet I will take some next time I see them. You know we resprayed the big tank and have been watching it all day and we haven't seen any since this morning. I know I can get pictures of a dead one but I'm sure, you need to see a live one. This is weird because she never eats pinkies, and we always freeze her sand before we put it in with her. We have a cat, I don't know if that gives any information. She eats mangoes, crickets, meal worms, romaine, parsley and her calcium supplement of course. The bugs seem to come out night and morning.

Thanks

Give us a good picture of the insects. Alive or dead won't matter.

Re: Cricket or Sand Flea?

You can also take the water out unless you are leaving it in there because she is gravid. Bearded Dragons get most of there water from the veggies and crickets they eat and also from baths.

Re: Cricket or Sand Flea?

She had reptile lice!! Gross, I have no idea were she got that from. So yesterday I woke up and she was covered in bugs it scared the **** out of me because she wasn't moving. So I rushed her to the pet hospital at 8 am and they took her right away when I told them she was gravid, they took a sample and it was lice! So they gave her a bath in the stuff, gave her meds by mouth and kept her for observation for a few hours till she ate and now shes home. We have to sanitize everything she has touched in the past few days. Luckily its host specific and once we get everything bleached we can continue to help lizzy bring her babies into this world. My vet said to spoil her for a while so she can get comfortable enough to lay her eggs so were get her new substrate of course and were gonna get her a few new climbing things and hideouts. Thank you for your help. all.

PS. I'm so excited a breeder here has a blood morph she needs to find a home for, and shes giving it to me for 50 bucks! I cant believe it! It sounds like a match for my beloved Lizzy. Of course Im not actually taking it home until the lice is gone.

Re: Cricket or Sand Flea?

If she is gravid now, I would not mate her with the blood anytime soon. Each time they breed it shortens the life span. She needs to put weight back on and get healthy again before you even consider mating her again.

You dont need word on your computer to use spell check on HC, its built in and I really suggest using it. If you use the regular posting method then the spell check is in a pink box to the top right, if you use quick reply its next to the submit button.

Re: Cricket or Sand Flea?

Ok, I'll do that. I know about that and I guess I forgot to mention that I knew she needed to get healthy after laying eggs. Thank you for your concern about that though. Sometimes people get too excited. Yes actually I'm going to have him sit in a separate tank for a while so they can get used to each other.

Thank you for your help! Its nice to know there are people where you can find info about your Bearded Dragon if you need it. I'm sure even as I get more experienced about breeding I'll still need your help.
