Advice for Replacing Healthy Bacteria
The guy that owns the local pet store hooked me up with someone today who is apparently a herp goo-roo. I have been treating my Bearded Dragons for coccidia, and as you all suggested I will have to replace their "healthy" digestive bacteria. He said if I wanted to go the inexpensive route to buy DanActive drink and feed them that. It contains the l.casie bacteria (as least I *think* it's a bacteria) that will replenish their healthy digestive bacteria. Anyone else heard of this? He has apparently been in the herp business for 40 years or so (according to the pet store guy). Just thought I'd share this info and see what you all think! He also suggested that I place my sick Bearded Dragon out in the sun, out of the wind, and that will perk him right up. Hopefully we get a sunny day tomorrow. Thanks for all your help!

Re: Advice for Replacing Healthy Bacteria
I know that you can use live active unflavored yogurt, I don't know about the Dan-Active stuff.
Personally I would just buy a bottle of Nutri-bac I use it once a week to dust my guys greens and the bottle I have is going to last me years. As far as putting him outside make sure that it is warm enough and don't put him out in a glass tank, it can overheat them very quickly. |

Re: Advice for Replacing Healthy Bacteria
Dan-Active I'm not so sure about. I do know these four options work quite well for reptiles of all kinds who have been on a "cootie-killer" medication:
1. Nutribac - specifically for herps (many pet stores, online) 2. Benebac - Made for birds - approved for reptiles (pet stores, online) 3. Nature Zone Essential Probiotics - specifically for reptiles (online - Reptile Supplies, Aquarium, Dog, Cat, Small Pet Supply Products Shipped Same Day - Big Apple Pet Supply ) 4. Acidophilus Tablets - Human health food store I use NutriBac once to twice a month as part of a maintenance program. It's just good practice since in the wild many lizards do need to replenish on their own from time to time.

Re: Advice for Replacing Healthy Bacteria
I too use Nutribac. It will last you quite awhile. I am not sure what all is in Dan Active but you can compare it to the yogart Lacey listed. If it has any additional ingredients, I would steer clear of it and just use the plain or Nutribac.

Re: Advice for Replacing Healthy Bacteria
I will order some nutri-bac on pay day. That would probably be the best route ~ but for the next few days I think I will try some of the Danon. My boys will drink whatever the Bearded Dragons don't
Or maybe try to find the Acidophilus Tablets..... Thanks again for the input! I do want to do the right thing for them ![]()

Re: Advice for Replacing Healthy Bacteria
If you do the acidophilus tabs...grind them up real well. You probably already know that...but it's nice to make sure...;-)
