Re: Juvenile Beardie Not Eating
Ok, I'm going to try to post the pictures. First, in reply to the UVB lights: I do know that there are better bulbs out there. If we are able, we will be getting new fixtures and bulbs in the next month or so. As I understand, the ones we have are only good for about 6 months anyway. What type of fixtures will we need for the mega ray bulbs?
I will cut back on the calcium supplements, as soon as Spikey starts eating . Here is the full shot of the aquarium: Here is Spike's side: This is Spike: And for comparison this is Sniper, with a much chubbier belly (excuse last nights debris in the background!) It is a brand new set up, I plan to pretty it up when I decide what exactly I want it to look like.....

Re: Juvenile Beardie Not Eating
Does Sniper not have any UVB? i know the pictures don't show the whole setup but from the angles you have taken them from it doesn't look like he has anything...

and maybe try putting more things in with Spike. Give him more hiding places. To have gone from a 10 gal to all that space with all that extra open space and really no where to "get away" to has to be scary and stressful.

Re: Juvenile Beardie Not Eating
Yes, Snipers lights are in a hood type of thing that is just above view in the picture. I had his plaform raised up a bit to get him closer. But, it was really easy to tip over how I had it so I am trying to figure out how to safely get him closer. I also had some fake plants in there with them but they were such good hiding places for the crickets I was afraid that was part of Spikes problem. I will try putting them back in.
I did have success feeding Spike with a dropper! I am hoping that will get his appetite revived. He has moved up off the bottom floor, closer to his lights so I know it gave him a bit of energy. Would apple and ham baby food be safe, we have some that our youngest would never eat . If not I will just keep using the blender. Thanks for all the help, I really want them to be healthy!

Re: Juvenile Beardie Not Eating
I think the baby food would be fine, but if it is stuff that you have had for a while, you only want to keep an opened jar for less than 24 hours...
Now with Snipers light? I can see that you have a screen top over his side of the tank, how big are the holes?

Re: Juvenile Beardie Not Eating
The screen is a basic mesh screen from the 10 gallon tank, but it is only supporting the red heat light that he has on at night. I can post a close up of that if you would like... is that OK to have there? Does everything else look ok? Oh, and at this moment Spike has his belly all flattened out under the basking area, looking more content and "normal" than he has in a while. Maybe the mash will do the trick. The baby food is unopened, I have been slowly pawning jars off on the hermit crabs. If I can use more up that would be great. thanks again for the patience and expertise!

Re: Juvenile Beardie Not Eating
It sounds like he's just going through an adjustment period, to me. When you first bring a reptile home, they go through an adjustment period where they're trying to get used to their new home, and trying to figure out if you're going to eat them or not.
With a big change like this one, he may just need a few days, even a week or two to become comfortable again. Especially if he was a dominant male in a small space, suddenly being in a large environment may intimidate him a little.Unless he's rapidly losing weight, I'd just give him some time. Keep presenting his food to him, but understand he may not eat until he feels he's safe again. Also, the reason Shell is asking about the mesh is because it may be filtering out the UVB light before it reaches your dragon - making it useless. You'll need the mesh to be at least 1/4" before it will allow the UVB rays through.

Re: Juvenile Beardie Not Eating
Yes, I understand about the mesh. I isn't actually under the fixture that the UVB light is in ~ it is supporting the heat lamp that I turn on at night. It is like a clamp lamp, but without a clamp. Thanks, I do want to do the right thing for these guys!
