Size differences
Hi - I'm new to Bearded Dragons.
I have two, a male and female, which I bought at the same time. I don't know how old they are, but when I bought them (about 2 months ago) they were both close to 10 inches from head to the end of their tail. Now the female is twice the size of the male. Is this normal? The male is eating and is not skinny, but he doesn't seem to be getting bigger near as fast as the female. Should I worry? Thanks and I appreciate any help anyone can give. |

Re: Size differences
Alot of it might have to do with their genetics and parental background. It is possible for the female to be bigger. Are you sure they have been sexed right?

Re: Size differences
Sadly, I don't know anything about their background and sexed them myself by looking under the tail - one has two bumps (male) and the other only one - I know that's not totally reliable.

Re: Size differences
Welcome! you might try separating them when you feed them, or at least taking the female one out long enough to give the male a head start on the food... She may be dominating him so he isn't get quite as much food as she is...

Re: Size differences
Yes, I have done that on occasion. One thing I have noticed, when I give them crickets, the female will chase after them and the male tends to sit and wait for them to come to him - he's my lazy couch potato. I also give them juvie food pellets (soaked in water) and he doesn't eat it too much, mostly the female, although he will eat the fresh veggies.

Re: Size differences
you might try putting him in a smaller container with the crickets. That way he doesn't have to chase them as much...

![]() The female goes spastic when crickets are involved. Mine are in seperate enclosures so there is no competition for food.
