Hello..Help??!!!

Hey there! I usually post on the leopard gecko forums, but I have some Bearded Dragon questions. Ok..here goes..
I work at a pet store..and like no one at this store is really really educated on Bearded Dragons. They all pretty much know the basics...sort of.
This morning, we found a baby Bearded Dragon that is sooo close to dying. He's very dehydrated, and almost starved to death. He was barely moving!! I know this is from improper care at where I work. I moved him immediatly to his own seperate tank. He's in a 10 gallon now, on newspaper. In there, he has a small shallow water dish and I put some greens in another dish. I've got a heat lamp on him, and it's about 107 in the basking area, and a UV light is on there too. I turned both of those off tonight, and used a Under Tank Heater. (These are all just things I could gather quickly).
Before He was kept with other Bearded Dragons on sand ( which I dont think is good) and the Bearded Dragons vent is kind of crusted over with sand particles. I cleaned him off well, and I gave him water with an eyedropper, and got him to eat 2 lightly calcium dusted crickets, and a bite of greens. Then I gave him a warm water bath for about 5 minutes. I did this as soon as I found him, and once again tonight. ( but he wouldnt eat the crix).
What more can I do for him? I've nursed baby leopard geckos back to health usuing a puree of like..turkey baby food, pedialite, calcium, and waxworms, and fed them through an eyedropper. Is this something I can do for the Bearded Dragon too? He is really bad off right now, and I want to save him. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!!!!

Re: Hello..Help??!!!

Sounds like you are doing everything right so far, you can feed a slurry to Bearded Dragons as well as leopard geckos, you may reformulate it to include some veggies as well.

I would advise you get him to a vet, feces sticking to the vent is a likely sign of parasites.

Re: Hello..Help??!!!

Like Lace said you are on the right track. A vet visit would be a must. You need to get a syringe and feed him to build his strength back up.

Re: Hello..Help??!!!

okay, So I got to bring the BD home tonight from the pet store. He's still in a 10 gallon, and I've put a basking rock under the light for him, and a water bowl with an airstone in it for movement. I heard they like that. The all over tank temp is around 90ish, and in the basking area, around 105. II also have a high output UVB striplight on there. Fed him a mix of crickets, waxworms, greens, turkey baby food, calcium and vitamin, and pedialyte tonight. I'm going to do it again tomorrow but I'm going to use a vegetable babyfood. He ate quite well. He also took about 3 whole small crickets ontop of that. He's still not moving around much, but he's sitting on his basking rock now with his little head perched up torwards the light. He's probably around 5 inches long including his tail, and he weights about 2 ounces on my scale. Thanks for the encouragement!

Re: Hello..Help??!!!

are his back legs stiff? Has he pooped at all? Like mosh said, if sand is sticking to his vent, and the feces is runny, there is a high chance of parasites. I know he's not your pet, but it seems like you car enough to save him. If possible get a fecal sample, and get the store to shell out the dough for a vet visit. It's really their fault. I too work in a pet store, and know that our animals are also kept improperly. Get a small eyedropper to feed him, and the mixture your giving him sounds about right. Also, give him daily warm-water baths to see if you can get him moving again. Make sure the baby food you get is organic. Unlike human babies, reptile babies are very sensitive to everything so any kind of additive could only hurt him instead of help. Good luck, and keep us updated!

Re: Hello..Help??!!!

try soaking him in a warm water bath. Nothing to deep tho. I used to put a washrag in my sink and put enough water in there to kinda cover the rag. Basically not so deep he can't keep his head up. the rag will help him feel more secure because he will have something to stand on thats not slick. good luck!

Re: Hello..Help??!!!

His back legs arn't stiff at all. He has been moving around alittle since last night. He's elminated once, it was when I brought him home, I had him wrapped in a towel to keep him warm and in my coat on the way home from the store. It was pretty stringy and orange. I go back to work tonight, so i'll try to talk my manager into it. If they wont pay, I think it's only like 30 bucks for the visit. Do you know if I can just take a fresh sample without taking the BD? I've named him * little B * by the way
Thanks!
I'll see if I can get some pix up later tonight or tomorrow too.

Re: Hello..Help??!!!

Most vets will do a fecal for you for 10-15 bucks without looking at the lizard. However if it is found that medication is needed you will need to bring the lizard in to be examined and weighed.

Re: Hello..Help??!!!

sounds like he is starting to turn around. I think a visit and a fecal would be about $50. Keep up the good work.
