Re: Toes

Sometimes if you give them something to climb on like wood or you can trim the very very tip of the nail but then it inhibits their climbing a bit. Put leash on and take him for a walk on concrete,

Re: Toes

So there really isn't much if you supply the proper surfaces for them?

Re: Toes

I am working on Vegas's new enclosure if I get textured tiles and use that as the bottom of the cage would that be sufficient as it is freezing outside and ofcourse branches and other climbing surfaces? Sorry if it seems to be the same question over and over I just want to be sure and enclosures are expensive want to avoid mistakes.

Re: Toes

get you some slabs of sandstone or simialr abrasive rock for them to climb on. This will help to wear down the sharp ends of the nails. Alternately you can clip them if you don't clip to deep.

Re: Toes

if you use a soft substrate like sand or shelf-liner, you can clip them with regular human nail clippers. Remember that bearded dragons have what's called a quick, which means they have blood veins in their toenails. Pay close attention to how you clip them, make sure you only clip the clear part, because otherwise he'll start to bleed. If this accidentally starts to happen, make sure you have some styptic powder on hand, and put on to stop the blood flow. When I would clip my Bearded Dragon's nails I would make sure I had some reptile healing aid on hand.

Re: Toes

Also in lieu of styptic powder you can use a little corn starch.
