Re: cat bit my beadrie.

I can tell you by experience from a cat bite that ended me up in the ER with a horrible infection in my finger, that I would get him to a vet immediately and start precautionary antibiotics. I learned the hard way that cats have the most bacteria ridden disgusting mouths out there. It is definately something I would not take a chance with. Good luck with everything!

Re: cat bit my beadrie.

A cat's fangs will cause a puncture wound that closes up on itself. This doesn't allow bleeding or bacteria to be flushed from the wound. I agree with Nicole... get to the vet.

Re: cat bit my beardie.

You may want to address how the cat got a hold of the lizard as well, your cage should be secure and your Bearded Dragon and your cat shouldn't be out together unsupervised, cats are predators.

Re: cat bit my beardie.

Cat bites are the second most dangerous non-venemous bites (after humans). They can lead to extremely dangerous infections. I'm not sure how it will affect a reptile, but I agree that a vet visit is in order.
My husband is a specialist in internal medicine and he has sent people to the emergency room with cat bites from their own pets!
My sister in law got bit by her cat in the thumb and washed it off. A few days later, the infection was so bad she had to have her wrist operated!!
I'm with Lacey: find out how the cat got to the Bearded Dragon and make sure they stay away from each other in the future!
Good luck: give us an update on your Bearded Dragon when you have one.

Re: cat bit my beardie.

It amazes me ho0w many people do not know that cat bites are so bad. I admit I was one who had no idea either until about 8 weeks ago. I mean, we have been keeping them as pets since the beginning of time I think, lol. My wound also did not bleed and within 36 hours I had to have my rings cut off me because my finger swelled so bad. It was very painful and very disgusting when they opened the finger to drain the green yucky stuff stuck in there. I was told I was lucky as the bite went through the bone in the knuckle and I still have my finger.

Re: cat bit my beardie.

Yes, cat bites are indeed very dangerous to reptiles, I'm not sure if they are worse for Bearded Dragons than other reps, but both the breeder and our vet told us never to let the cats and the Bearded Dragons be together. We always had to supervise where the cat was vs. where the Bearded Dragons were. Both told us that infection from the bite could kill the Bearded Dragon within a short amount of time. I agree, get that Bearded Dragon to the vet. And as far as humans go, we treat cat bites immediately, I almost always get bit and scratched when taking my sweet furry kitties to the vet. The vet has been bit also. We always try to use a kittty muzzle if we can keep it on. The vet treats my wounds before I leave. Rescues are always so thankful for their good care! LOL Nicole you were one lucky lady with that bite! We have many animals here that can only be taken out with strict supervision, because they are predators and or prey.
We have house cats, dogs, parrot, snakes, and various lizards, they do NOT play well together! We used to have a cockatiel that could sit on the cats and dogs and none would bother her, she was really mean though.
