Emaciated Beardie

Someone asked the pet store to board their sick Bearded Dragon. Oh. My. Gosh. I have never seen a pet so horridly skinny in all my life. I almost cried just looking at him. We can't get him to eat at all, he is lethargic and you can see every little bone in his body. His tail looks like a rat's it is so thin... For the last three days we have fed him with a syring. He's so weak that all we have to do is nudge his jaw open and squirt the stuff in there. We've been using a mixture of waxworm/mealworm juices, water and dragon bites. There just doesn't seem to be any improvement. I don't think his temps are correct... but I haven't been able to get them to change that yet. But it is warmer than where he came from from what I have heard. The owner doesn't want to take him to the vet, but that is what he desperately needs... I'm going to push for a fecal, but until then... any suggestions?

I just suggest, vet! If he's in the bad of shape good luck!! I would just continue the feedings, maybe add a few more or up the dosage amount of food per serving that you are feeding. It's going to be hard, good luck!! Temps have to be up and good or it' snot really going to help to much and he may get a RI!

I would add some repti aide and calcium to the mix. He either has parasites or just has plain not been fed. I agree a vet visit is in order but you cant twist the owners arm.

Do you have a vet that your store uses that might cut you a deal?

I like dawgs idea to, lol

i would say vet, and if all checks out, then call the humane society and see where to go from there, if all else fails, it may pay to tell him it unfortunately died and get it to a better home.

I really am considering the humane socioty. The problem with that is I guess the guy that gave it to us is a friend of the Reptile fellow and they don't want any confrentation. Also, the store doesn't really have a vet and wont pay for it, and I don't have any money... So I am back to reporting the poor dear. I do wish I could say he passed away and smuggle him out. Would make my life easier.

He does seem a little bit better today. He didn't move when I picked him up, but he did make a fuss when I went to feed him. Actually, his energy gain is almost a problem, as he is now strong enough to resist when I open his jaw, and I'll have to stop now. He did, however, eye a waxworm and tried somewhat clumsily to nab it with his tongue, before falling asleep again. It's something I suppose.

Make sure his temps are up as well, like around 110-115.
